Kintsugi Class in San Francisco (Financial District)

What It Is

Our kintsugi class in San Francisco runs at 405 Sansome Street in the Financial District, four minutes from Montgomery BART, with elevator access. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery and highlighting the cracks in gold rather than hiding them. In this 90-minute kintsugi pottery workshop you fit the pieces of a ceramic bowl or cup back together, join them, and trace every seam in gold-coloured detail, so the repair becomes the design. $89 per person, all materials included, no experience needed, and the beginner-friendly method sets the same day.

Public kintsugi lessons seat up to 12 and suit date nights, birthdays and anyone wanting a slow, mindful hour. Private kintsugi workshops host 10–100 guests at the studio or at your office, and work well as a reflective team activity. Children from 6 can join with an adult.

Fit and bond the pieces edge to edge, working slowly so each seam lines up cleanly.

Trace the Seams in Gold

Trace the Seams in Gold

Highlight every crack with gold-coloured detail, adding flourishes where you like.

Finish and Take It Home

Finish and Take It Home

Let the finish set, then leave with a piece that is more beautiful for having been broken.

Fit the Pieces, Find the Lines

Fit the Pieces, Find the Lines

Start with a ceramic bowl or cup already broken for you. Lay out the fragments, learn how they meet, and join them with a beginner-friendly adhesive that sets in minutes instead of weeks.

Trace Every Crack in Gold

Follow the seams with gold-coloured detail, then add decorative touches of your own. The result is a piece whose history shows, which is the whole point of kintsugi.
