Quick answer: across 145 corporate and team bookings at KraftStories studios between September 2025 and September 2026, the typical team event had 11 people, cost $99 per head and about $1,100 in total, was booked 15 days ahead, on a weekday afternoon, for an in-studio session. Team bookings were 11% of our experience orders but 48% of experience revenue. The numbers below are from our own order data; the method and caveats are at the end.
Where these numbers come from
We pulled every paid order in our Shopify store from 3 September 2025 to 25 September 2026, removed kit and wholesale sales, and classified an experience booking as corporate or team when it had eight or more seats, a private, mobile or virtual event tag, or an event fee or deposit line. That left 145 team bookings and 1,190 consumer bookings (couples, friends, birthdays) to compare against. Everything here is an aggregate; no client is identifiable.
1. Group size: the median team event is 11 people
- Median group size 11; mean 14.6. A quarter of events are 8 people or fewer, a quarter are 17 or more, and one in ten is 25 or more. The largest single booking was 80.
- 31% of team events are 10–14 people, the single most common band. 6–9 people is next (26%), then 15–24 (21%).
- Consumer bookings, for contrast, have a median of 2 people; 84% are one or two seats.
What this means if you are planning one: most venues quote "up to 40" or "up to 120", but the event you are actually organising is most likely a dozen people. Optimise for that — one instructor, one room, one table plan — rather than for the capacity number on the brochure.
2. Spend: $99 per head, about $1,100 per event
- Median spend per team event $1,111; mean $1,439; the largest event was $7,680.
- Median spend per head $99 (range $40–$175 across formats and cities). Consumer bookings also sit at $99 per head, so companies are not paying a "corporate premium" per seat; the difference is headcount.
- By group size, the median event cost was $958 for 6–9 people, $1,010 for 10–14, $1,821 for 15–24 and $3,234 for 25 or more.
- Only 5 of 145 events added a paid food or drink package through us; most teams bring their own or go out afterwards. The top 10% of events account for 27% of team revenue.
3. When teams book: weekdays, business hours, mid-afternoon
- 95% of team bookings are placed Monday to Friday. Wednesday is the busiest booking day (26%), followed by Thursday and Friday (20% each). Consumer bookings are flat across all seven days.
- 79% are placed between 9 am and 6 pm Eastern, with a peak at 2 pm — the office manager's after-lunch admin block.
- Event days are spread differently from consumer events: where we have the event date, team events fall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays in roughly equal measure, while 71% of consumer events are on a weekend.
4. Lead time: 15 days, versus 4 for everyone else
- For the team bookings where an event date was recorded, the median gap between booking and event was 15 days (mean 23; shortest 3 days, longest 90). Ten of 24 were booked one to two weeks out.
- Consumers book a median of 4 days ahead, and 30% book for the same or next day.
Two weeks is enough time to run a normal event, but not enough to hold a specific Thursday evening in December: our December dates are typically taken by mid-November. If the date matters, book four to six weeks out; if the date is flexible, two weeks is realistic.
5. Format: in-studio still wins, mobile brings the biggest groups
- 83% in-studio, 10% virtual, 7% mobile (we bring the workshop to the office).
- Group size by format: in-studio median 11, virtual median 10.5 (largest 45), mobile median 15.5 with a mean of 26 and the 80-person event — when a company wants everyone in one session, it tends to happen in their own space.
- Spend per head is the same in-studio and virtual ($99 median); mobile is slightly lower per seat ($91) because it carries a flat event fee instead of a higher seat price.
6. Where: New York is 56% of team bookings
- NYC 56%, virtual 10%, Honolulu 5%, Irvine/LA 5%, San Francisco Bay Area 3%; 21% of orders were custom invoices with no location recorded.
- Spend per head by city: NYC median $105, Irvine $92, SF $79, Honolulu $69. Group sizes are similar everywhere (median 9–12).
7. What teams make: mosaic lamps, rugs, terrariums
- Team events by craft: Turkish mosaic lamp 39, custom rug tufting 35, terrarium 33, moss and neon wall art 16, candle making 10, mosaic candle holder 8, then clay, photo embroidery, resin jewelry, perfume, sea glass, watercolor and wood burning in single digits.
- Compared with consumers, terrariums and moss wall art over-index for teams (a desk plant or an office wall piece is the natural take-home), while sea glass and rug tufting under-index — tufting is the number one consumer craft but tends to be booked by smaller groups.
8. Repeat rate: one in five team bookings is a returning company
- 21% of team bookings came from a customer who had booked a team event with us before, versus 13.5% for consumers. Twelve companies booked more than once in the year.
9. Seasonality, with a caveat
Team bookings by month ran from a low of 3 in January to highs of 25 in July and 24 in September 2026. Q4 2025 (October–December) was 14% of the year's team bookings. We are cautious about reading seasonality into this: our booking flow changed during the year and the first four months of the sample are thin across both segments. The pattern that does hold is a summer peak (June–August) and a back-to-office spike in September.
What to do with this if you are booking a team event
- Budget $100 per person plus food; a 12-person event lands around $1,100–$1,300 before catering.
- Book two weeks out for a flexible date, four to six for a fixed one, and earlier for December.
- Pick the craft by what people will keep: terrariums and wall art for offices, lamps for a gift-like take-home, rug tufting for groups under ten.
- Over 25 people? Consider a mobile session in your own space, or our Financial District loft, which holds up to 120.
Method and caveats
Data: all paid Shopify orders, 3 September 2025 – 25 September 2026 (2,074 orders). Excluded: 739 kit, wholesale, gift-card, fee-only and test orders. Classification of the remaining 1,335 experience orders is described above; 88 of the 145 team events were identified by seat count alone. Group sizes are seat totals, which overcount headcount on multi-craft events (a 40-person event booking two crafts shows as 80 seats); this inflates the mean and maximum but barely moves the median. Two events paid in two instalments are counted as two orders. Lead time is based on the 24 team bookings with a recorded event date. Spend excludes tax. Percentages are rounded.
