The 2027 Cultural & Heritage Calendar for Teams
Every heritage month, festival and observance worth putting on your team's calendar next year — with the craft that actually belongs to each one. Built by the people who teach Turkish mosaic lamp-making, block printing and Turkish coffee, so the pairing is heritage, not a theme.
Twelve months, forty-three occasions
Month-long observances sit at the top of each month; dated occasions run underneath. Where a craft genuinely belongs to an occasion, it's linked. Where it doesn't, we've said so instead of inventing a connection.

Q1 January–March
11 occasionsJanuary
-
Jan 18
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
A federal day of service, not a party. Most teams do better with a volunteering block or a facilitated discussion than an activity.
-
Jan 27
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
For acknowledgment, not celebration. Worth marking internally; not a date to attach an event to.
February
-
Feb 6
Lunar New Year — Year of the Sheep
The fifteen days close with the Lantern Festival, which is why light is the right object to make here rather than another red-envelope activity.

Feb 8
Ramadan begins
Lanterns — fanous — hang for the whole month. Schedule in the evening and skip catering, or hold the session and save the food for iftar.

Feb 21
International Mother Language Day
A natural fit for distributed teams: everyone prints or letters a word from the language they grew up speaking.
Pair it with Block Printing
March
-
Mar 8
International Women's Day
Fibre arts carry a long history of being dismissed as women's work and then reclaimed. Tufting makes that history the subject rather than the decoration.
Pair it with Rug Tufting -
Mar 9–10
Eid al-Fitr
Coffee and sweets are the whole shape of an Eid visit. A Turkish coffee session reads as hospitality instead of a themed lunch.
Pair it with Turkish Coffee -
Mar 20–21
Nowruz — Persian New Year
Sabzeh, the dish of sprouted greens, sits at the centre of every haft-sin table. A terrarium is the same idea in glass — growth you start yourself and watch for the year.
Pair it with Terrarium -
Mar 22
Holi
Pigment on a surface, without the office-wide cleanup bill.
Pair it with Block Printing
Q2 April–June
11 occasionsApril
-
Apr 21–29
Passover
A scheduling note more than an event: dietary restrictions run all eight days, so avoid booking catered team meals through this window.
-
Apr 22
Earth Day
The single most over-booked date of the spring. Hold your slot by February — living-plant workshops go first.
Pair it with Earth Day team activities
May
-
May 16
Eid al-Adha
The second Eid, built around sharing. Many colleagues take time off — check before you schedule anything mandatory.
Pair it with Turkish Coffee -
May 21
World Day for Cultural Diversity
The anchor date for this whole calendar. If you run one culture-forward event a year, run it here.
Pair it with KraftStories Originals
June
-
Jun 19
Juneteenth
A federal holiday, so the event belongs on the 18th or the week after. Textile and quilting traditions carry the history well.
Pair it with Block Printing -
Jun 20
World Refugee Day
Best paired with a donation match or a partner org, not an activity.
Q3 July–September
7 occasionsJuly
-
Jul 30
International Day of Friendship
The quiet one that works surprisingly well for teams: everyone makes two and gives one away.
Pair it with Candle Making
August
-
Aug 9
International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples
Source anything you run here from Indigenous-led organisations. Borrowing the aesthetic without the people is the failure mode.
-
Aug 26
Women's Equality Day
Marks the 19th Amendment's certification. Pairs naturally with a fibre-arts session and a short history.
Pair it with Rug Tufting
September
-
Sep 21
International Day of Peace
A slow, quiet, hands-busy session lands better than a speaker on this one.
Pair it with Moss Wall Art
Q4 October–December
14 occasionsOctober
-
Oct 1
International Coffee Day
Turkish coffee is on the UNESCO intangible heritage list. This is the date that pairing was made for.
Pair it with Turkish Coffee -
Oct 1–3
Rosh Hashanah
Keep the first two days clear of mandatory meetings and offsites.
-
Oct 10–11
Yom Kippur
A fast day. Nothing scheduled, nothing catered — the most important scheduling entry in this quarter.
-
Oct 11
Indigenous Peoples' Day
Observed in place of Columbus Day in a growing number of states. Learning-led, not activity-led.
-
Oct 28–29
Diwali
The festival of lights, and the clearest pairing on this calendar. Everyone leaves holding a lamp they cut and set themselves. Book by August — this date sells out first.

November
-
Nov 16
International Day for Tolerance
Works best as a mixed-team session — pair people who never normally sit together.

Nov 25
Thanksgiving
The week before is the busiest booking window of the year. Lock a date in September if you want a Tuesday or Wednesday.
Pair it with a private team session
December
-
Dec 3
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
A good moment to audit whether your team events are actually accessible — seated, low-noise, no time pressure.
Pair it with Inclusive team events -
Dec 10
Human Rights Day
Marks the Universal Declaration. Usually an internal communication rather than an event.
-
Dec 24
Hanukkah begins
Eight nights of light, starting the same week most offices close. Run it in mid-December and let people take the lamp home.

Dec 26 – Jan 1
Kwanzaa
Seven nights, seven candles on the kinara. Candle-making is the one pairing on this calendar that is literally the ritual object.

A note on the dates: Islamic observances follow moon sighting and can shift a day either way; Jewish holidays begin at sundown the evening before the date shown. Several entries here — Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom Kippur, Indigenous Peoples' Day — are deliberately left without a workshop. They are for acknowledgment or for staying off the calendar, and attaching an activity to them is the mistake we see most often.
