✨Island Zen & Living Art Trade the bustle of the city for a lush, creative sanctuary in the heart of Honolulu. Led by Nur—a designer and educator with over six years of experience in ecosystem engineering—this workshop is a journey into the "miniature Earth" philosophy. Using high-end materials and tropical flora, you will hand-build a self-sustaining terrarium designed to breathe and water itself. In this space, we bridge modern ecology with a deep sense of presence, proving that nature's resilience can be captured in a single glass jar.

What you'll do

Foundation & Ecosystem Logic:

Foundation & Ecosystem Logic:

We begin by reframing the craft—this isn't a gardening class; it’s planetary engineering. You’ll learn the history of the "mini-Earth" concept and set up your base drainage layers to support long-term water and gas cycles.

Soil Science & Hydration:

Soil Science & Hydration:

Using our signature "pre-hydration" method, you’ll mix specialized moisture-control soil, activated carbon, and sphagnum moss. This critical step kickstarts the ecosystem immediately, ensuring your jar is perfectly balanced for years of survival.

Landscape & Planting

Landscape & Planting

This is the creative heart of the workshop. You’ll design your topography, professionally prep your tropical plants to protect against pests, and layer in live moss. You’ll learn how to create depth and perspective like a pro.

Artistry & Long-Term Care

We finish with the "flow state" details—adding decorative paths, figurines, and fairy lights. Finally, we cover the secrets of "zero-maintenance" care, name your world, and celebrate its "birthday" with a group show-and-tell.

What to expect

🌿

In this 90-minute immersion, Nur guides you through a process that is equal parts science and soul:

  • The "Mini-Earth" Blueprint: We begin by looking at the science. You’ll learn how water cycles and gas exchanges create a closed loop, turning your jar into a functioning planet.
  • Tactile Layering: Under Nur’s guidance, you’ll methodically layer drainage stones, charcoal, and specialized soil blends. This rhythmic, hands-on process is a natural "digital detox" that clears the mind.
  • Curating Your Landscape: This is where the artistry happens. Using live tropical plants and fresh mosses, you’ll learn to create depth and perspective, transforming your jar into a hidden forest glade.
  • The Flow State: As you use precision tools to place the final decorative elements—like pebble paths or tiny figurines—the outside world fades away into a meditative flow.
  • Sustainability Secrets: You’ll walk away with a functional, long-lived ecosystem and Nur's proven care tips to keep it thriving for years with almost zero ongoing effort.

🌟 Why This Honolulu Session Is Unique

  • Host Expertise: Nur has A/B tested soil ratios and moisture levels for years, extending terrarium life from months to multiple years.
  • Engineering Over Luck: We don’t rely on "green thumbs." Every material is scientifically chosen to ensure your ecosystem thrives regardless of your past history with plants.
  • Premium Honolulu Studio: Enjoy a calm, high-design environment specifically curated to foster creativity and group connection.
